We Need New Babesia Treatments!

I have some news for you, my dear Lyme friends. Traditional pharmaceutical and antibiotic regimens that are typically prescribed for babesia are failing to eradicate the infection in most Lyme disease sufferers.

According to Dr. Horowitz, a Lyme-literate MD who has treated over 10,000 Lyme disease patients, the current regimens need improving. That patients "are getting better" just isn't good enough. (And just how nebulous is the term "getting better", anyway?). No, we need to be seeking out solutions that will provide cures.

Why?

Well, according to Dr. Horowitz, artemisia, the wonder anti-parasitic herb, has not been curative, in most cases. He suggests that doses of 800 mg daily (which is higher than those typically prescribed for daily dosing) may be more helpful, but physicians are concerned that these doses may cause neurological side effects.

The antibiotic Mepron is too expensive, and doesn't always eradicate the organism. Dr. Horowitz suggests Malone, as a less-expensive substitute.

Enula has shown to be useful for four different types of parasites, and may therefore be another potential remedy, as may the herb cryptoleptis. Neither of these has been tested extensively in Lyme patients; however, Dr. Horowitz believes that a more beneficial (perhaps even curative?) protocol may be formulated by combining these herbs with pharmaceutical antibiotics.

Personally, I wonder if anything can kill babesia. Some believe MMS to be the babesia wonder drug, but I have taken MMS for three months (and at times, doses of 30 drops a day for three to six days around the full moon), and I still test positive for the infection. Perhaps higher, and more prolonged, doses are needed. I don't know.

What I do know is that this organism, like its counterparts borrelia and bartonella, is tenacious, virulent and difficult to eradicate, and no ingestant may be powerful enough to eliminate it, without harm being done to the body.

So what about focusing upon strategies that will instead repel the organism, and strengthen the immune system, rather than throwing anti-babesia bombs at the bug in the hopes that we can destroy it?

As I mentioned recently in a blog post, strategies found in bio-energetic medicine, such as LED (Laser Energetic Detoxification therapy), homeopathy, bioresonance, Immune Response Training, and Quantum Techniques, focus upon harnessing the body's (and the organisms')energies to empower the immune system to eradicate and repel pathogens. This approach may be more effective than trying to kill the infections with a biochemical substance, partly because energy medicine strategies tend to address infection in the entire body, thereby leaving less opportunity for any bugs to get "left behind."

What's more, energy medicine treatments are gentler than pharmaceutical or herbal antibiotics (that has been my experience, anyway), because the body is able to eliminate toxins at a pace that it can afford, and because fewer neurotoxins are generated when the organisms are "repelled" instead of directly killed by antibiotics.

I don't know. The latter is purely speculation on my part, but I'm fast learning that when it comes to Lyme disease, even the best of the best must speculate to some degree. This is the "nobody knows" disease, and we might as well get used to it!

I am encouraged by the fact that energy medicine is advancing and rapidly gaining in popularity, however. This means that new, improved strategies against babesia and other Lyme infections will continue to be developed. At the same time, as we learn more about new, effective herbal and pharmaceutical combinations, better strategies may be devised in traditional medicine, as well.

I'm not discounting Dr. Horowitz' solutions; indeed, he is a wise physician with many years of experience in treating Lyme disease patients. But even he believes that we need something better for babesia. And while that something better may be found through new herbal-antibiotic combination remedies, perhaps it's also wise to keep our minds open to the best of what is, and what will be developed, in bio-energetic and other forms of natural medicine.

I have the same problem with Babesia (Duncani variety, formerly WA1). My titer still remains positive after a year of treatments. Now, my LLMD wants me to do another round of Mepron/Azithromycin, but I wonder if it would just be a waste of money. So here I "sit on the fence," researching, trying to figure out what to do next. Sixteen years of misery and counting......

Hi Tahoelymie,

I'm sorry to hear that you have undergone so much treatment, and that babesia remains a problem. What about trying remedies besides antibiotics? I know that energy medicine strategies have helped some. Or perhaps a substance like MMS (it hasn't helped me, but others think it may (But there's that key word, "may" )have gotten rid of their babesia. I am going to do a post this week on another remedy that I think "may" also help get rid of babesia.
Best of wishes to you in your healing.

Hi Connie,

Thanks for the ideas about alternative remedies. I'll have to look into MMS since this is the first I've heard of it. I'm probably going to try Enula and incorporate Samento again as I've decided to take a break, maybe permanently, from antibiotics. I was intrigued by your post about the artemisia/clove product. Do you think this is the same kind of artemisia in Dr. Zhang's product? My liver enzymes went very high when I tried Dr. Zhang's product, so I may have to stay away from artemisia altogether. Do you know if there are any possible liver related issues with Samento, Enula, or MMS? On a side note, I can really relate to your posts about faith, family/friends understanding, relationships, etc. It sounds like we've had similar experiences and have a similar outlook on chronic illness. Blessings to you, Steve

Hi Steve,

Great to hear from you again!
Yes, definitely try MMS! I feel it will probably be more powerful for you than Enula or Samento-indeed, these herbs are good, but I don't think results are, in general, as dramatic as with MMS.
As for your liver enzymes, these go high when your liver is overloaded with toxins, no matter what protocol you do. The key is supporting the liver as much as possible and not giving your body more treatment than it can handle. I don't believe that the artemisia in the clove/artemisia is the same derivative used by Dr. Zhang (he uses artesunate, I believe), but it is probably just as powerful, since it contains a number of different herbs. You would want to be careful and start slow.

Anyway, glad you can relate to my writing and I hope that the posts have been edifying to you.
Keep me posted on the results of your new treatments.
Thanks and many blessings to you,

Connie

I'm guessing that I've been a lymie with babesia for over 8-9 years now after recieving the 2nd highest Bowen/Qribb test 2 years ago.

Impeccable lifestyle, herbs, ozone insuflation and a rife beam ray helped heal 90% of the symptoms. After starting Himalayan Crystal salt 3 months ago and MMS 2 weeks ago, I'm almost all out of symptoms. I just saw this site and felt good to share.

I'm new to this blogging stuff. I'd like to know if any/many folks have had good results with Mepron?
My doc wants me on it and I've got a lot of reservations about it, including the price, obviously.
I've been trying MMS for several weeks now taking the max dose 2 to 3 x per day and feel no improvement
most importantly, I'd like to know what does work against Bb and babesia, it can't be different for everyone, can it? thanks for any feedback

Badbite,

Unfortunately, what works for one person doesn't always work for another. The same goes for Mepron. I have not used it, but have heard that it helps some and not others. It may be that some doctors don't prescribe it for long enough periods of time, as many months are required for some to get rid of the infection.
You won't see results right away with any protocol, and you might even feel worse at first.

Also, I have read that doses of 30 drops a day of MMS are required to get rid of babesia, but I don't know for how many days and I haven't heard anyone confirm that MMS has gotten rid of their babesia (although theoretically it should).

You might want to consider combining a herb like artemisia with mepron (under your doc's supervision, of course) for greater effectiveness.

I have used herbs, MMS and energy medicine to treat mine. Supposedly it is gone but I need to test to find out for sure.

I wish you well trying to figure it out!

after reading what these folks went though http://www.ilads.org/sherr4.html
I'm inclined to look carefully into energetic medicine approach; I'm guessing this includes things like
rife? The most encouraging post I've read on here is the one from Dean Martens although I have no idea what ozone insuflation and Himalayan Crystal salt 3 are.

I've heard of rife but never seen such a machine.

I was doing half way decent with just LD but now they tell me I have babesia as well. Easy to feel down with all of this.

Connie, do you know about this from Klinghardt? we use pulsed electromagnetic fields (KMTmicrobial
inhibition frequencies),
The KMT microcurrent technology is new and revolutionary (17). The
instruments are FDA approved for pain control. Designed by Japanese
engineers they use four different - but simultaneously applied - high
frequency superimposed biological waveforms.

Connie Strasheim said...

Hi Badbite,

I have heard of the KMT. It is one of many different types of frequency devices used to treat infections.
I have never used it personally, but Dr. K is one of the best LLMD's, so I am sure there are people who have had good results with it.

For more info. on Rife machines you might want to go to the Yahoo! group Lyme-and-Rife, where discussion about Rife for Lyme takes place. Rife machines have a better track record for borrelia than babesia, though this doesn't mean that they can't work for babesia.

A newer device is called the Biophoton 880, which is being used in Europe for Lyme and co-infections. It is not yet available in the States but you could travel to Germany to get treatments.

Other energy medicine strategies to think about include Quantum Techniques, www.quantumtechniques.com (although this one is very expensive), Bioresonance, and IRT (Immune Response Training). The latter isn't energy medicine, per se, but does use energy principles to train the body to do what it is supposed to. For more info. visit: www.lymefree.com.

I know how depressing it is to discover you have more than just one infection. Most Lyme sufferers, however, have multiple infections, including babesia and bartonella, so we are all in the same boat. You are not alone, rest assured, and be encouraged by the fact that once you get the "big" infections under control, the "smaller" ones often go away on their own.

I hope this helps!
Thanks,

Connie

I think Chanca Piedra might have cleared mine and with zero herxing too. Mepron and Malarone and the Bionic 880 did not work to clear it nor frequencies.

I have been using MMS mixed with DMSO on my skin. I think the advantage here is the DMSO pulls the MMS into the cells where the organisms stay sheltered. This combination is recommended by Jim Humble, the originator of MMS, on his site. An additional benefit is that MMS is a chelating agent and I believe the biofilm is being removed as well. I have high hopes, am feeling better each day.

Has anyone else tried gallium. I took 1 oz diluted to 1% solution 3x/day and it cured bartonella and I'd tried everything else first including rifing and coiling. After gallium symptoms 100% gone because it removes anything iron-dependent which most bad bacteria is and barts are highly iron dependent -- so is babesia. Problem: it also removes biofilms. Breaking up biofilms means releasing whatever is in them so can have sudden increase in symptoms and herxing. On the good side, then removing biofilms means less chance of relapsing and much less load in body. On the bad side, removing biofilms can hit hard since almost anything can be sequestered. Without removing them, the darn critters can still be lurking and re-emerge.
