Welcome to Lyme Bytes!

“But you look so good!” (Well, I'm glad that organic spinach is doing me some good on the outside, at least...).
So what’s my problem? I have Lyme disease, but that’s just a package-it-up nice and neat way to put a name to the party of pathogens and ten thousand daily biochemical screw-ups of my body. The idea about doing a Lyme blog kind of gives me the shivers—after all, I sniff, sleep, shower and stuff my face with this illness. Do I really need to write about it, too? Especially when my energy is like rations in a communist nation—and I’d better spend it wisely. Doing a blog might leave me starving for energy I need for more life-sustaining functions like preparing my organic salmon salad and praying to God for sanity. But the amount of information out there on this illness is yet disproportionate to the urgency for awareness of a complicated disease that is already thought by many to be a world-wide epidemic, and as so many fellow Lymie’s have lifted me up in encouragement, it’s my turn on the merry go-around. It is my hope that those suffering from Lyme and other “invisible” illnesses might derive encouragement from my posts and humble knowledge on the subject. May you find peace and rest in your journey towards health.

What Is The Lyme Disease Survival Guide About?

(SEE BELOW FOR BLOG POSTS! :-)

As you can see from the link on my blog, I have released my new book, The Lyme Disease Survival Guide: Physical, Lifestyle and Emotional Strategies for Healing. So what is it about?

Offering a holistic approach to healing, this book provides not only information on treatments for the physical body, but also strategies for healing the mind and spirit, at the same time that it entertains and supplies practical lifestyle suggestions for coping with illness.

Divided into sections, the first part describes physical strategies, with information on the most widely used protocols to treat Lyme disease in conventional and (especially) alternative medicine. Information on detoxification and supportive strategies is included and, while not comprehensive, is intended to provide an overview of different treatments that have historically been beneficial for healing others from Lyme disease.

The second and third parts of the book, borne out of my own struggles with the illness, are intended to offer insights into the lifestyle and emotional challenges of illness as well as solutions for these.

Two final sections on humor and spirituality are to lift your spirits and suggest the role of God in healing. While written from a Christian perspective, people of other faiths may yet appreciate the last section, which ponders, among other things, the redemptive potential of illness and God’s great love for humanity.

While informative, this book also entertains, and is sprinkled with humor and occasional irony. I know of no other way to write about such a sober topic as Lyme disease. The lifestyle and emotional sections, in particular, are laced with dry wit because it’s a powerful way for me to be able to say to others, “I know what you’re feeling because I’ve been there, too.”

While no two people will have the same healing path, I share my personal experience and research with the hope that I can impart a tidbit of light to those who may find humor and healing in some of the strategies I present henceforth. While I have attempted to include the most recent, updated information on physical strategies, in the world of Lyme disease things quickly change, and new treatments are constantly being developed. Bear this in mind as you read. May God bless you and keep you, and may He make His face to shine upon you as you journey towards health.

Homeopathy for Healing Emotional Trauma

If you've read my blog for more than two days, then you probably know that I believe that emotional trauma is a factor in most chronic illness. In some ways, it's more irritating than the bugs and their blankie biofilms, because healing it seems to be even less cut-and-dried than getting rid of infections. At least I have found it to be so, especially because healing trauma tends to conjure up for me images of having to mentally relive painful memories and strive mightily in my conscious mind in order to be well.

Fortunately, releasing emotional trauma can sometimes be accomplished without the use of muddy cognitive therapies. Sometimes, the road can be more straightforward. Homeopathy, among other energy medicine strategies, can take you on such a road, and especially when you are working with a competent practitioner, because all you have to do is take a remedy. Just like when you nuke the bugs with antibiotics.

There is a catch, though. The effectiveness of homeopathy depends largely upon the homeopath's ability to discern the proper remedy, given your symptoms, character and history. All three must be taken into account when deciding upon how to heal trauma, and it's not as easy as it sounds to determine which remedies will work for a sufferer. So finding a skilled and experienced soul is key.

So how is emotional trauma healed with homeopathy?

Most often, homeopaths take a sequential approach in chronic illness, by making notes of a patient's history through time, and prescribing remedies according to that history, in reverse chronological order, because this is how the body naturally heals. So newer traumas are treated first with specific remedies for each "event", followed by older ones. Also, the skilled homeopath will take into account the patient's symptoms and character to determine priority in remedies.

Recently, I took Aconite 200 to heal from the events of 9-11 (since I was based in New York with United Airlines at the time). The onset of my Lyme anxiety began around the time of 9-11, 2001, and hence, my homeopath determined that this was the first "event" that needed healing in my body.

In about a month, once the full effect of the Aconite 200 has taken effect in my body, I will be given a remedy for another event. Yes, the process can be slow but healing from the Lyme complex and chronic illness is sluggish affair, anyway.
I'm learning to be patient.

If you have Lyme disease and your current strategies don't seem to be impressing the bugs, consider the possibility that there may be emotional trauma hindering your healing. If this is the case, I would recommend homeopathy as one way to deal with it. Why not? The remedies are safe, inexpensive, and if you get a good practitioner who charges fairly for his/her services, it may end up being one of the most effective and painless remedies you try.

For about 12 years I had essentially been in bed or on the sofa. I had been diagnosed with "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome"--a catch-all phrase doctors use when a person is exhausted all the time, and they can't find out why. One doctor even suggested I was lazy. In tears I asked my husband if I was indeed lazy, and he assured me I was the least lazy person he knew.

In November of 2006 I started going to a Naturopath. I saw him for two and a half years every month--and in the beginning every week. He said I "had a lot going on"--his way of telling me I was pretty sick, with a lot of health problems. We spent a small fortune, and I did feel better, but not enough to keep me from crashing often and back in bed.

In May of 2008 my daughter called me from New York explaining how much better she and her husband felt after their auto accident since they had had an Asyra assessment. She explained that it tested frequencies in the body and balanced the frequencies that were not normal. My daughter's recommendation was all I needed for my husband and I to make the trip to New York the next weekend. I was not looking forward to the trip, because I knew the 10 hours of driving in two days would likely put me in bed for a few days.

I had my first Asyra visit. It was certainly a new experience, but I did not feel immediately different. When I awoke the next day with only a few hours of sleep, I felt good. The ride home was delightful, and I unpacked when we arrived home--much more energy than usual

The Asyra found that I had Lyme disruptions in my frequencies, and made the balancing correction. I eventually bought an Asyra machine. I have been trained on the program, and I am in the process of earning my CNHP (Certified Natural Health Professional)

How am I now? After many assessments and eight different strains of Lyme found, I am doing much better. I do crash at times if I do too much, but it is the exception rather than the rule.

I have my life back thanks to Asyra.

I am sure there will be many skeptics to the benefits of Asyra so I hope you will share this letter with them.

As you know we did a digestive reading for me and one of the things that was noted was a problem with tooth 27. I laughed because I thought it was my missing tooth.

The next week I had a cleaning appointment with.....and I asked my hygienist which tooth it was, she stated it was not my missing tooth but the tooth on the other side of my mouth. She looked at it and said she did not see a problem but she would mention to Dr. ...when she came to do my exam.

When Dr. ... checked she found that there was a loose filling under my gum line and stated she would have not caught it unless she had looked so intently for the problem. Needless to say at their request I have forwarded both my hygienist and Dr your information since they were truly amazed.

Had the decay continued I would have probably needed a root canal and crown, a very expensive procedure. I am happy to say that was not the case; I just needed a new filling.

How wonderful that with this technology we can ward off more serious problems.
